God gives the gifts and then God works in the humans, appointing it all to play out for His glory and pleasure.[/caption] Dear Westboro, I wanted to ask you about the following verses, namely: Amos 6:5: “That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David.” Psalm 57:7: “My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.” Does God give individual’s musical talent, or is it something that is trained and exercised? In today’s society, we see many musicians make beautiful music and there are many contemporary musicians use their talent to create dance music. Is it the responsibility of musicians to create music that gives glory to God who gave them the talent? I know that there is music such as harp music, without words, that is relaxing to listen to. Does God have a particular interest in music, especially since Satan had some charge of music in Heaven prior to has fall, namely: Ezekiel 28:13: “You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared.” In addition to this, The NKJV says, “The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.” Please can you give me your perspective on this context and help me understand this. Kind regards, Chad Good evening – Like every work, music is a Work of God. It is truly a gift! God gives the gifts and then God works in the humans, appointing it all to play out for His glory and pleasure. To some He works the gift on their path to salvation. To some He works to require a work at the hand of an unclean raven to make a work that glorifies God! For example – the Messiah – a wonderful work of God that has masses of rebels singing the praise and works of God from generation to generation, much of it pertaining to the end of days, a work of eschatology (and praising God in His first and second advent). “Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me. As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.” (Psalms 18:43-44) “Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them.” (Psalms 68:18) “The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.” (Psalms 110:2-3) All that said – my fervent desire is that as long as the Lord my God will loan me any voice and strength to sing, that I will use it to sing His praise and glorify His Name and give the glory of His works to Him! “I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” Isaiah 42:8 So when God sends the shooter – we will sing praise to His Name and give the glory of that Work of God, to God! I hope you find and listen to every song of every sort that Westboro Baptist Church has posted: http://godhatesfags.com/audio/index.html Thank you for asking. Your friends at WBC]]>
