Greetings. Thank you for your email to Westboro Baptist Church imploring us not to bring Bible signs to the dedication of a new church in St. Mary’s.
Any time God restrains the wrath of man (Psalm 76:10), for His glory and by His mercy, we are most thankful. The work of those who oppose killing unborn babies falls into that category. It does not, however, justify idolatry. The cup of this nation’s iniquity is not yet full; with the last drop, full destruction will follow. This nation has wholly forgotten God, and we have a sure promise from Him that this will lead to destruction (Psalm 9:17). That is a sobering fact. The duty to lift up our voice and warn of the consequence of proud systemic sin and coming doom is not to be taken lightly, e.g., Leviticus 19:17, Isaiah 58:1, Ezekiel 3, Ezekiel 33, Matthew 3:7, 2 Corinthians 5:11, Jude 1:23, etc.
You say the SSPX Catholics are not the same as the others. In the eyes of the average citizen they are. And more importantly, in the eyes of God and the holy angels they are. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump (1 Corinthians 5:6). The Catholic church is full of leaven. The shameful conduct of the raping priests in our generation should be enough to send any truly God-fearing soul running screaming from that place, and never take the name “Catholic” again.
Worse, the idolatry that saturates the Catholic church, in all its sects and branches, through all its jarring rituals and lexicon, is the root and cause of the raping priests, and enables the proud sin of this nation and world. From its inception, the Catholic church was Satan’s contrivance, designed to perpetuate a fraud on mankind. The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ has a simple blueprint, plainly set out in Scriptures, and nothing is to be added or taken from it. (This links to a document setting out the attributes of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in detail; very helpful: https://www.godhatesfags.com/doctrine/20071211_new-testament-church-scorecard.pdf.) It has nothing to do with worshiping Mary, writing tomes of rules, laws, and other directives (by whatever foreign name), setting up and bowing down to statues, rhetorically counting beads and chanting, putting a man between Christ and His elect (He alone is the mediator) claiming he can absolve you of sin, robes, incense, incantations, and the like or opulent decorative gilded overpriced buildings. “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.” Isaiah 53:2. The simple pattern from Christ for His Church does not satisfy the flesh. Like apostate Jews, reprobate mankind pines for a King Christ who is full of pomp, circumstance, worldly wealth, wide popularity, and otherwise pleasing to the flesh. That is the god served by the Catholic church. The garish building dedicated in St. Mary’s on May 3 has nothing to do with God, Christ, or giving glory to the King of Eternity. Rather, it is about giving glory to man and pleasing the ritualistic impulses of humans. “I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies,” Amos 5:21.
This idolatry is not a small thing. Frequently the Scriptures warn against it. Because from it flows deeply entrenched horrific ruinous sin. Look at the people around you, and all those streaming into the event. How many are practicing fornicators, adulterers (including divorce/remarriage), murderers (war, gun-worship, flag-worship, abortion) and homosexuals? The fact that you do not even know for sure, one-by-one, demonstrates that the Catholic church is not following Christ, who called for a holy walk, striving against sin, and for keeping His Church pure through church discipline. As recently as this week the media announced the Pope’s intention to lighten the meaningless man-made restrictions of the Catholic church on persons who are divorced and remarried. And so on and so forth. “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous,” 1 John 5:3. “Little children keep yourselves from idols,” 1 John 5:21. Couldn’t be more simple than that.
If you truly agreed with the pure doctrine of the Bible reflected on WBC’s signs, you would welcome us with open arms, and truly consider our presence the highlight of the day. Instead, in the same breath you say many attending “wholeheartedly agree” with us on an unnamed issue (presumably the sin of Sodom), but that our presence will be a distraction. Of a truth, if one WBC sign distracts one tender soul from the appalling and disgraceful display of extravagant and useless wealth and ceremony, that will be a great comfort and blessing. Opposing homosexuality from a self-and-works-righteous perch is not what Christ seeks. This is not about any human’s ideology, preferences, or perceived works. This is about humbly mourning for the awful sins of this nation and warning your fellow man of the dreadful end that is sure to come. If a person does not find simple Bible precepts, timely and topically applied to the sin on the table at this hour, to be a sweet savour, that person has no hope for heaven, 2 Corinthians 2:15-17.
The whole world is watching and talking about the installation of this unholy edifice in St. Mary’s on May 3. It would have been a betrayal to our duty, our King, and to our fellow man, if we drew back from responding as ambassadors of Christ. Every person going into or watching the event is entitled to hear the truth. Pray God gives you repentance for the email you wrote, for participating in this display of blasphemous idolatry, and for propping up the centuries of awful sin of the Catholic church.
