I Recently Saw Louis Theroux’s Documentary On Your Church; I Have Some Follow-Up Questions

I hope that the Lord will have mercy upon you and you will desire to get to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and dwell there in peace, learning and seeking the Lord.

Dear Westboro Baptist Church,

I recently saw a documentary that was a bit unfair in the sense that it twisted and turned your faith to look like a negative thing, instead of giving a clear perspective. In short terms, it was a bit biased. I was not born or raised in the church. I am in the process of educating myself. Upon watching this documentary, I have some questions.

1) My biological father does not want anything to do with me. I have searched and pleaded to have him in my life as it has been heartbreaking growing up without one. With that said, he is Jewish. I think I understand the explanation of why Jews go to hell. I have never practiced Judaism. But I am half Russian Jewish by ethnicity. Does this mean I will go to hell?? Or is there still hope??

2) My parents were not married and my mother wasn’t exactly a good example of a parent. Her main focus in life was money, traveling, appearance, having expensive things, and having “fun,” while I was pawned off to nannies and babysitters. Being that I was created out of wedlock, does this mean I will go to hell?? Or is there still hope?? I ask the same question on the subject of being the child of two very vain, selfish, and irresponsible people. Does this mean I will be punished for their sins??

3) I noticed in the documentary that the women wore scarf-type coverings over their hair. Is this practice because of modesty, or is there another reasoning for that??

4) For someone trying to learn about God, faith, the Bible, and spirituality, what advice would you give to somebody educating themselves??

5) I have had an interest in the practice of law for some time now and am close to choosing where to continue my education. What advice would you give to someone entering law school and choosing what type of law they would like to focus their education on??

6) Being raised in a rough way, I see a psychiatrist. He thinks I should take medication for depression. Does your faith clash with taking medications on a daily basis?? I mean as far as anti-depressants and things for pain or anxiety that aren’t necessarily needed to physically survive? I assume that having to take medication daily medication for blood pressure is okay as it is needed for me to survive. Do you believe in the power of God’s will over medications for what would be considered mental illness??

7) The two family members I do have around are my grandmother, and an uncle with special needs. He was born in 1959, but his mental age is that of a 4-6 year old. He has never been formally diagnosed but some professionals would use the term “Mentally retarded”, while others would say he has a severe form of autism. He is also fully blind. I live next door to them and take care of them. He was raised Baptist. Despite his disabilities, he has a talent for music. He is able to play the piano, he has perfect pitch, and his memory recall is outstanding. With that said, if you ask him the number of any hymn, he can tell you. If you read him a bible verse, he can tell you what book, chapter, and verse it is. So while he does know the Bible, many would say that he is unable to accept Christ into his heart and be baptized because he is unable to truly understand what that means, much like a very young child would. Would you say he would go to Hell?? I’ve heard people talk about “age of accountability”, but I don’t know much about it. Another question would be, do you think he has the capability to accept Christ into his heart, or understand the concept of the sin that is going on in our world??

8) What does your faith think about adoption?? I have been thinking about it, from the viewpoint of taking an innocent child out of a bad situation and giving them a better life. I am still undecided, as I think I should sort myself out before thinking about raising another human being.

9) Is anybody welcome to attend a church service, or do you guys have restrictions in place for safety reasons, or even faith-based reasons??

10) I noticed a lot of talent in your family. My talent is along the lines of cross stitching and crocheting. Along with some classic dance training. How can I use my talents to serve God??

11) I saved the heaviest question until now. In April of 2013, I was hit over the head with an empty liquor bottle, abducted, taken to a hotel room where I was repeatedly beaten and raped for several hours. My rapist was never found. I haven’t been the same since. My first question would be: if this was a consequence of my parents sins or even sins of my own?? Secondly, I still have nightmares and fears. This is why my psychiatrist is insisting that I take medication for PTSD and anxiety. Despite me not being comfortable with relying on those medications, he continues to push it. Are these nightmares and PTSD also a consequence of my own sin?? Could God heal me without the use of those medications?? Or do I have to live with this type of fear for the rest of my life as a consequence of my own sin or the sins of my parents?? Which leads to my last question.

I apologize if my questions are too ignorant or selfish. I hope none of them were disrespectful or too personal as that was not my intention. I am new to this. I never had parents to show me the way, I had to learn lessons the hard way. I was inspired to learn about faith by a co-worker. I was sad during the holiday season that I did not have a mother or father to go visit during the holiday season while everyone else did. Trying to offer words of comfort, my co-worker told me that I do in fact have a Father that loves me, just not here on earth. That is why I am trying to learn.

I thank you for taking the time to read this, as I know you have more important things to do. If I do not get a response, I understand. I figured It was at least worth asking while I am trying to discover my own beliefs. Please know that I am coming from a place of respect and am not trying to start an argument or a debate. I ask them simply because your church is more educated about the Bible and God.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Mackenzie –

Answers in order of questions:

  1. I’m very sorry your dad has dealt treacherously against you.  So very sorry.  The state of your soul belongs exclusively to the Lord your God.  If He works in you to desire to seek Him, to serve Him, to love Him, to worship Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to cleave only to Him, that is all that matters.  I sincerely hope that for you.
  2. See answer to #1 above.  Add this:  Your path was set by the Lord your God, and the awful behavior of parents and others, do not shorten the Arm of the Lord.  We are each one in HIS hands to save or to destroy.  Flesh has NO SAY in this matter.  So do not look to flesh for any good thing.  Sow to the spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, faith, gentleness, goodness, meekness, temperance, against these good things, there is nothing that can stand.  I would encourage you to forgive your parents, and to be very thankful for your lot and know that the Lord has done it.
  3. We cover our heads because that is what the Lord our God requires of us.  Consider these simple, plain words when Paul is discussing our conduct when the Church meets:

1 Corinthians 11:5  But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6  For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7  For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8  For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9  Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10  For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11  Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12  For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13  Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14  Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15  But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16  But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

Take aways:  Women do not cut their hair and they cover their head when they are in public worship.  Men do not cover their heads, and they do not have long hair.  If you want to argue with us about that (verse 16) just be crystal clear, the church of the Lord Jesus Christ has no other custom than what I just said.

  1. I do not recommend that you try to self-educate.  That said, I recommend that you search the Scriptures daily and pray without ceasing.  Consider these words:

Psalm 27:4  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

Romans 10:12 ¶  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18  But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

I hope that the Lord will have mercy upon you and you will desire to get to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and there dwell in peace, learning and seeking the Lord.

Pray without ceasing.  See #1 above.

  1. I do not know you or your circumstances, so I would not have a basis to advise you on this question.
  2. GOD ALONE SEARCHES THE HEART!  GOD ALONE is the God of all peace.  And in fact, God gives the obedient peace.  RUN from those witch doctors.  Scripture teaches us plainly and irrefutably that an integral component to the Revelation of Jesus Christ is a worldwide disposition where most — if not all — of mankind will be possessed with the co-occurring disorders of mental illness and substance abuse. There are way too many words in Scripture about this to tell you all, but consider these examples to make those points:

Jeremiah 17:10  I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Revelation 9:21  Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

Focus on the word SORCERIES.  That word comes from a Greek word 5331 φαρμακεία or pharmakeia (where we get our word Pharmacology) and see these additional words about that:

from 5332; n f  AV-sorcery 2, witchcraft 1; 3

1) the use or the administering of drugs

2) poisoning

3) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it

4) metaph. the deceptions and seductions of idolatry

This is just the beginning of this examination of a tiny piece of the horrible sins of this nation, for which the Lord has promised that in defiling the very land, He will cause the very land to vomit out the inhabitants.  See Leviticus 26 for some more good language on that.

If you have a headache, take a Tylenol – not the same thing as Prozac at all.  Just think OPIOID and massive drug abuse and those that enable such.  It is a horrible curse of God that has tentacles running from one end of this earth to the other.  The Judge of all the earth WILL do right.  To be very clear, the witch doctors that call themselves messing in the heart and mind are all up in the middle of this mess.

  1. It is very kind of you to take care of people in need.  But please consider these words of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Matthew 12:47  Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48  But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49  And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50  For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Luke 9:59  And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60  Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61  And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62  And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

When you stand before the Lord our God, like we all must, your grandmother and your uncle will not stand with you.

I do not know your uncle, so I cannot fully understand that situation respecting your question about his mental state.  But what I do know is that your uncle cannot accept Christ into his heart, because NO HUMAN can accept Christ into their heart.  It is God that works in you, both to will and to do of HIS good pleasure.  See #1 above.  As for the state of your uncle’s soul, it is exclusively in the prerogative of the Lord your God.  You cannot do anything about that, except tell that man the truth about God.  And set an example of seeking, loving, living for the Lord, serving Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

  1. Adoption is the balm!  Without adoption, I would have no hope.  Please read the book of Ruth.  Please read Romans 9 to 11.  The Gentiles were adopted into the good tree. We have adopted children at the Westboro Baptist Church.  That said … I cannot advise you about that, because I do not know your life circumstances.
  2. ALL are welcome at the Westboro Baptist Church.  All things are done decently and in order, and that is how the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ rolls.  😊
  3. We have only what the Lord our God loaned us, and my desire is to use all that is in my grasp or influence to serve the Lord my God and glorify His name.  I can only do that, if the Lord my God will permit.  The way you use all that you have to glorify God is to obey God and to serve Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to minister to His people.

Colossians 1:26  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Romans 15:25  But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.

Hebrews 6:10  For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

1 Thessalonians 1:3  Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.

  1. I am so very sorry about your trauma.  The answer to your question is:  YES!  God can heal you without drugs.  You have reached out to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I don’t know why God sent you with these questions, but I tell you plainly, since you did, I would not waste one day getting to the Church and putting my affairs in order so that I can be obedient to serve the Lord my God all the days of my life.

Your questions are not viewed as ignorant or selfish.  If any human asks the Lord for wisdom, He will give it, liberally, and he will not upbraid you for it.  We must do the same.  If you ask a sincere question, we will answer, but not endlessly or to doubtful disputation.

Thank you for writing.
