Dear Mr. Meyer,
This is a response to your letter wherein you attempt to make a case that murdering your unborn baby is OK if rape was involved in the situation. You also expanded your position to include “mistakes”.
If your parents ‘made a mistake,’ would you defend your parents’ decision to abort you? This is a dire situation you have constructed here regarding this hypothetical teenage girl. You have done so because either 1) you actually know a girl that needs help, or 2) it is far more likely that you are attempting to use the exceptional case to argue for the general, which, by definition, you cannot do. It is like saying: I just killed a dog to defend myself, therefore, I can preemptively kill all dogs to defend myself. The morality of the situation does not change simply because someone was raped. Rape does not justify murder. Two wrongs do not make a right. The only thing abortion does is perpetuate the violence inflicted to both one’s body, and one’s soul. Furthermore, you speak of being pro-choice, but what about the choice of the child whose brain is being scrambled, whose heartbeat is being silenced, whose life is being extinguished simply because you made ‘a mistake’ that has inconvenienced you? It strikes me as hypocritical that you would deny the most basic of human rights (life) from a child, and then cling to it yourself.
It is estimated that over 60 million (and counting) babies have been killed in this country, and over one billion babies have been killed worldwide since the early 70s when abortion was legalized.
You say to just let people worry about themselves, but as servants of God, and followers of Christ, it is our duty to love our neighbors as we love ourselves (Mr. 12:31). The Scripture defines love clearly in Leviticus 19:17-18:
17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of they people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the Lord.
Therefore, we are duty bound to tell you that abortion is wrong and the consequences of abortion. So to those few women who are in the situation you described: either have the baby and do your God-given duty to raise it, or put the baby up for adoption. Consider God’s word on what He requires of you:
Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
Trust the Lord; obey the Lord; your way will become clear.
To those women who say their child was a mistake:
Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee.
Psalm 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
You must please stop calling these children ‘mistakes.’ The Lord God knew all of His creation before they ever came into being! Plus, He calls children His heritage! It’s a mistake to take a gift of God and throw it back in His holy face by murdering His “heritage”, or raising that baby in the ways of this vile flesh. Children are dependent on their mothers and fathers for protection, for answers and for guidance!
To those women who are still vainly struggling to justify abortion:
Ex 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Luke 3:14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
If you are supposed to love your enemies, how much more are you to love your own child? This is a no-brainer.
Lastly, do not think that these people who so cavalierly murder children will get away without consequences.
Romans 12:19 Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Thank you for writing.
